The Process

1. Consultation – Initial discussion to gain information about the shape of the pool and spa, any special features, and preferred start build time. We look at the topography of the land and the home’s architecture to help understand how the pool and spa should be laid out. We will prepare a bid form and discuss pricing after the consultation.

2. Prepare plans & acquire permits – Once the bid is approved, we prepare the plans for the pool and spa and obtain permits. The homeowner will be responsible for obtaining any necessary HOA approvals.

3. Layout – After the plans are approved, we use stakes and string to lay the pool and spa out according to the plan’s size, location, and shape.

4. Excavation – We “dig” the pool. This is the first part of the construction and typically takes one to two days. When excavation is complete, we prepare the form boards for the shotcrete.

5. Frame – We construct a steel skeleton by laying bars horizontally and vertically to reinforce the shotcrete.

6. Shotcrete – Shotcrete is a special mix of concrete which is shot through hoses under high pressure. The shotcrete is sprayed in layers and forms a concrete shell of the pool and spa.

7. Finish Tile – We install the chosen tile around the edge of the pool and spa.

8. Plumbing and Equipment – We install the plumbing lines and equipment including pumps, valves, and fittings. We use saltwater pumps that are designed to require minimal maintenance.

9. Pool Deck – If chosen, we have our subcontractor install the chosen pavers for the pool deck.

10. Plaster Finish – We have our subcontractor apply the chosen finish to the pool and spa surface. The chosen finish determines what “color” the pool is.

Dig to Swim Factors

  • Scope – The more complex the scope of the project, the longer the build will take.
  • Access – How difficult will it be to get equipment to the building site?
  • Inspections – We schedule inspections as soon as necessary. We cannot guarantee that an inspector will be available right away.
  • Weather – this is Florida and we have rainy seasons. One day of rain could potentially create a weeklong delay.
  • Materials – Special order materials could create a delay, as well as changing material choices during the build.
